www.foreignfundingprojects.blogspot.com------------------------------------------------------Volunteer in Vietnam with VFCDVolunteer for Community Development and Environment Education (VFCD) is a non-government, non-profit volunteering organization based in Hanoi, Vietnam. VFCD was established under the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE) and all activities and operations are directed by the principles, purposes and regulations of VACNE. VFCD works in close partnership with UNESCO Vietnam. To set up International Voluntary Projects that develops communities and promotes conservation of the natural environment. Our programs and projects provides a volunteer service that creates opportunities for people from all over the world, giving them the chance to change their lives and the lives of the people they help.We are also setting up sustainable community development projects to protect the environment and to provide basic education and life skills for vulnerable groupThe projects we offer can be undertaken on either a short or long term basis and focus on traditional education, environment education and community development. There are numerous projects for volunteers at VFCD both in urban and rural areas. Urban based volunteers have the option to travel to rural areas on the weekends to promote cultural exchange and live with local people. We also have tailor-made internship programs to suit the volunteer’s interests and skills.Project Aim: Place qualified Native English speakers into regional schools, colleges and universities in local towns and Hanoi capital. Tutors will assist with the development of student’s English language learning. You will have the chance to teach and experience the real Vietnam and other provincial cities and towns.Project Duration: Positions will be for 3 – 12 months. The minimum placement will be for 3 months. Applicants requesting long term placements will be favorably considered.Volunteer for Disadvantaged ChildrenA large disparity in income among urban and rural areas means the number of free immigrants (including children) from rural to urban areas in Vietnam will be increasing. Ecological environment destruction often leads to disaster loss (prolonged drought, floods ...) making the lives of farmers become more impoverished and unstable. The shortage of jobs, low incomes and many other objective reasons create groups of orphans, and illiterate hobo living…The children find it very difficult to get the opportunity to access quality education that can change livesChildren who have had a rough start in life can tend to grow up bitter against the world and manifest counter-social behavior, but if they are shown love and concern in their formative years, then that memory of love actually helps them to contribute positively to society in their later years. That is why VFCD is cooperating with a Hanoi school to carry out a program called: “Creating quality, equal educational opportunities for disadvantaged children”. Together we are trying to create opportunities for these disadvantaged children to enjoy the same educational/recreational activities that their peers from the better socio-economic strata get to regularly partake of. It is different from the established special schools for only disadvantaged childrenThe program will not only give them a formal education program but also expand their horizons, teach them new skills like art, craft, music, English, and dance will help them to integrate into the community. The Centre for Street and Abandoned Children is a governmental project of the local Committee for Children and Mothers Protection.Local and international volunteers are needed provide orphaned and street children with a basic education. This will be done through educational games and activities created by the volunteer. This centre works with children who are forced at a young age to earn a living by collecting rubbish, begging, polishing shoes, working in handicraft factories and other like activities. Currently the centre houses seventy students and holds three daily classes, two in the morning, and one in the afternoon. As a result, the students are not receiving a full curriculum and the schools staffs are over worked. Volunteers are desperately needed to act as teachers assistants and organize educational games and activities for the students. This project needs local and international volunteers to work cooperatively to create educational programs which include both Vietnamese and English subjects. VFCD wishes to improve the level of education and access to knowledge for the students in the hope that they can lead better lives and be well integrated into the community. This centre is the only hope that they may have for a more fulfilling life.
Volunteer for Ethnic Minority Youth in Sapa
The Sapa district is very close to the border with China. The Hoang Lien Son range of mountains dominates the district, which is at the eastern extremity of the Himalayas. This range includes Vietnam’s highest peak, Fansipan Mountain at 3,142m above sea level, and a vast area covered by thick forest, which is very rich in wildlife. The township of Sapa lies on a hill station at the attitude of about 1,600m and was built by the French into a famous summer resort with some one hundred colonial villas which was well-known as “ Tonkin’s Alps”. The complicated terrain of Sapa including the steeped high mountains with sharp cuts and large valleys, many streams of water in combination with sloped terraced paddies form magnificent scenery.Sapa is also an ideal environment for a great diversity of ethnic minority people. For nearly two decades in an attempt to turn Sapa into one of the country’s premier tourist destination, the local ethnic people have experienced great changes, many of them negative, like ethnic minority children who left school to work for the tourist dollar from an early age, initially selling crafts to tourists or trying to become a tour guide. It is difficult life for these children without an education. An informal educational centre has now been set up by VFCD to help them improve their current situation and hopes for the future through learning how to read and write in Vietnamese and English. They also learn Math, Art, and other life skills such as how to make handicrafts, or other ways to support themselves. At the moment VFCD hosting a center for community studying in Sapa town, our students are minority youth from Sapa and the surrounding villages. Some of them already work as tour guides; others make a living through selling handicrafts in the streets of Sapa. Most of the students have very little schooling, and some do not know how to read and write. It is crucial for their future that they learn these skills. All the students have expressed their happiness and gratitude for the opportunity to learn from the centreCurrently, both Vietnamese and international volunteers teach oral and written Vietnamese and English. Classes take place every afternoon and evening. We feel that it is very important for local youth to know these languages, being crucial for them to make the most of limited job opportunities in Sapa. It is our hope that this program will help the local youth to adapt to a more confident and healthy lifestyle and that they will make better use of the opportunities available to them. The program is great opportunity to make a difference and discovery one of one of the most wonderful places in Asia and is a magical combination of landscapes, ethnic cultures and bracing mountain air.Work camp in Sapa (North-West of Vietnam)This unique program is an opportunity for volunteers to share experiences with a local community development group. The program brings participants a meaningful education program combined with ecological tourism, helping to improve the living standard of the local ethnic minority groups and developing unique cultural exchange.Project Background: The hill-tribe groups of Vietnam are a collection of diverse, exotic communities. Despite the natural beauty of their environment they have some of the lowest standards of living, health and education in the country. Many young people from these communities do not attend school and begin working at a very young age.Project Goals: Work with local ethnic minority groups to develop English language skills, improve life skills in multi-cultural environment, and help improve the interactions of local communities with the tourists on whom they depend. During the work camp volunteers will have many chances to make contact with local people, discover their culture, as well as help the community preserve their unique living environment.Provide conversational English lessons to local youth to help broaden the children’s knowledge and help improve their education and studying conditionsAssist villagers to improve their language and communication skills and to develop more effective techniques to approach and sell their products to tourists.Assist with setting up and improving local home stay projects. Provide advice on food safety, cleanliness and other factors that may make the home stays more appealing to tourists.Guide locals and tourists to throw waste in the right place and to protect the environment and wildlife. Work with the local community to educate and raise the people’s consciousness about natural forest protection.Participate in tree planting projects to help regenerate the natural environment.Help people harvest crops and perform other everyday tasks unique to village life.Note: Interaction among individuals or small groups. To join a project you need to choose one from our latest project list or our website, www.vfcd.org the website will contain the most up-to-date information about project availability, but if you would like to receive a paper copy please contact us. once you have chosen which projects you are interested in, send us an application form, accompanied by the appropriate fee and we will start the placement process.• Step 1- Choose a project from our latest project list on our website.• Step 2- Send us the completed volunteer CV form -color photo must be inserted in résumé and submitted electronically.
